Quieting the “I’m not enough” voice

Evelyn Mayes

“I’m not enough.”

If those words sound familiar, you are in very good company. Almost every woman I coach has heard some version of that voice — often the most capable, caring, hard-working women I know.

Here’s what I want you to know: that voice is not the truth about you. It’s a pattern. And patterns can be rewritten.

1. Notice it, name it

The inner critic loses power when you stop mistaking it for your own voice. Next time you hear it, simply say: “Ah — there’s the critic again.” That small gap is where your freedom begins.

2. Keep an evidence journal

Every evening, write down three things you did well — however small. Over time, you build a body of evidence your mind can’t argue with.

3. Make (and keep) tiny promises

Confidence is really self-trust, and trust is built by keeping promises. Start tiny: a ten-minute walk, one honest conversation, drinking your water. Each kept promise is a deposit.

4. Speak before you feel ready

You don’t have to feel confident to act confidently. In the next meeting, share one idea in the first ten minutes. Notice that the world doesn’t end — and often, it gets better.

5. Surround yourself with believers

Mary told me she was learning tools for consistency — and within weeks she was choosing between three job offers. We rise faster when we’re held by a supportive hive.
